Head Varsity Volleyball Coach

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join Bethesda’s athletic department as the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach. As the head coach, you will be responsible for leading and managing the varsity volleyball program, fostering player development, and promoting a positive and competitive team culture. This position requires excellent coaching skills, strong leadership abilities, and a passion for both cross country and mentoring student-athletes. Additionally, the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach will mentor student-athletes as they grow in their Christian walk, leading them closer to Jesus.

From preschool through 12th grade, our Christ-centered programs equip students to achieve excellence in their God-given purposes – in academics, fine arts, athletics, and service in the
community – all while consistently building and cultivating strong character. We want students to leave loving Jesus more than the day they came.

Responsibilities:

Coaching and Training:

  • Develop and implement effective training programs and practice sessions to enhance
    individual skills and team performance.
  • Teach and demonstrate proper techniques and strategies to maximize the team’s
    potential.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to players to help them improve their skills and overall
    performance.
  • Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that promotes teamwork,
    sportsmanship, and personal growth.

 

Game Strategy and Planning:

  • Analyze opponent teams to develop game plans and strategies for competitive play.
  • Make informed decisions during matches regarding player substitutions, tactical adjustments, and effective use of timeouts.
  • Instill a winning mentality and encourage the team to strive for success while emphasizing fair play and ethical conduct.

 

Team Management:

  • Evaluate assistant coaches, delegating responsibilities and coordinating practice
    schedules.
  • Monitor and assess player progress, conduct individual evaluations, and provide regular
    performance feedback.
  • Promote team cohesion and camaraderie by fostering a positive team culture, emphasizing communication, respect, and accountability.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with players, parents, athletic administration, and other stakeholders.

 

Program Development:

  • Identify and nurture talent within the program, helping players reach their full potential
    through skill development and goal setting.
  • Assist student-athletes in navigating the college recruitment process, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Encourage academic excellence and promote a healthy balance between academics and athletics.

 

Program Promotion and Community Engagement:

  • Act as an ambassador for the volleyball program, building positive relationships with the school community, parents, and local organizations.
  • Organize and participate in community service initiatives and fundraising events to
    support the program’s needs.
  • Collaborate with the athletic department to develop marketing strategies and promote
    the volleyball program within the school and broader community.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience coaching volleyball at the high school or college level is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of volleyball rules, techniques, and strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively motivate and inspire student-athletes.
  • Proven leadership abilities and the capacity to manage and mentor a diverse group of
    athletes.
  • Organizational skills to plan and execute practices, games, and team events.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.
  • Valid coaching certifications and/or willingness to obtain necessary coaching credentials.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is preferred.

 

Certifications: (preferred, but not required)

  • Ability and willingness to drive a school van to and from games.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
  • Coaching certifications from reputable organizations or governing bodies.

This is a stipend position, and the successful candidate will be expected to work evenings and weekends, as required by the team’s schedule.
