The state of Texas requires vision and hearing screenings for students in the following grades: kindergarten, 1st , 3rd , 5th , and 7th, as well as new students in all other grades. Acanthosis Nigricans screening (risk assessment for Type 2 diabetes in children) is required for students in 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th grades. Nurse Schmidt will begin screenings on Monday, October 26, through Friday, December 11, and will notify families ONLY if referrals to specialists are needed.
Spinal screenings for 5th and 7th grade girls and 8th grade boys will take place in December, as well. Nurse Schmidt will provide more information to families via email.
