Middle or High School Teacher

Job Description:

A middle school or high school teacher at Bethesda Christian School (BCS) provides students with a comprehensive education that integrates biblical principles and values into the curriculum. The teacher facilitates students’ academic growth, spiritual development, and character formation, preparing them for higher education and a life of service grounded in Christian faith.

Responsibilities:

Instruction

  • Design and implement engaging and rigorous lesson plans aligned with BCS’s curriculum, academic standards, and biblical teachings.
  • Incorporate Christian worldview and values into assigned subjects.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technologies, and resources to enhance student learning and understanding.
  • Deliver effective and dynamic classroom instruction that promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and application of knowledge of assigned subject.
  • Encourage student participation and foster a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Guide discussions and facilitate activities that explore the intersection of faith, life, and academic subjects.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning needs of students.

 

Spiritual Formation:

  • Encourage students to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and live out Christian values in their daily lives.
  • Lead devotional or prayer time to foster students’ spiritual growth.
  • Mentor and support students in their spiritual journeys, providing guidance and counsel when needed.

Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:

  • Assess student learning through a variety of methods, including tests, projects, presentations, and class discussions.
  • Provide timely feedback and constructive guidance to students, helping them identify areas of strength and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and school administrators to support student progress and address individual needs.

 

Classroom Management:

  • Establish a positive and respectful classroom culture that fosters a sense of belonging and community and maximizes instructional time.
  • Set clear expectations for behavior, discipline, and academic integrity, promoting Christian values and character development.
  • Address student conflicts or behavioral issues in a compassionate and fair manner, seeking opportunities for resolution and growth.

 

Collaboration and Professional Development:

  • Collaborate with other high school teachers and staff to align curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships and communications with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Participate in professional development activities to stay updated with best practices in Christian education.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Comply with school policies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a relevant subject area (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification or license.
  • Strong knowledge of Christian teachings, values, and biblical principles.
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal spiritual growth and a vibrant Christian faith.
  • Experience in teaching middle/high school students or working in a Christian school environment (preferred).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to integrate faith and learning effectively in the classroom.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine love for adolescents and their holistic development.
