Reading Interventionist
Job Description:
The Early Reading Interventionist provides targeted literacy support to students in grades PK-2 who demonstrate risk in foundational reading skills. This role is responsible for delivering evidence-based interventions, monitoring student progress, and collaborating closely with classroom teachers and families to ensure measurable growth in reading proficiency. The interventionist plays a critical role in strengthening the school’s early literacy framework within a small, relationship-centered learning environment.
Responsibilities:
Instruction & Intervention:
- Deliver small-group and one-on-one reading interventions aligned with evidence-based practices (e.g., phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension).
- Use structured literacy approaches to support diverse learners, including those with dyslexia or other reading challenges.
- Design and implement individualized intervention plans based on student data.
Assessment & Progress Monitoring:
- Administer and analyze literacy screeners, diagnostic assessments, and progress monitoring tools.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of student performance and growth.
- Adjust instruction based on data to ensure continuous improvement.
Collaboration:
- Partner with classroom teachers to align intervention strategies with core instruction.
- Participate in student support meetings and contribute to intervention planning.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and strategies for support at home.
Program Development:
- Support the development and refinement of the school’s early literacy and intervention programs.
- Assist in selecting and organizing instructional materials and resources.
- Provide guidance and resources to teachers on best practices in early literacy instruction.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Reading, Literacy, or a related field.
- Experience teaching early elementary students (PK–2), preferably in reading or literacy intervention.
- Strong understanding of the science of reading and structured literacy practices.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Reading, Literacy, or Education.
- Certification or training in programs such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or similar structured literacy approaches.
- Experience in a private or small school setting.
